Presented is an almost unimprovable example of the charming 1956 Topps Presidents Set, which along with its nearly identical predecessor the 1952 Bowman version, is easily one of the popular and coveted non-sport sets of the decade. The 2 ½-by-3 ¾-inch cards depict all of the Presidents up to Eisenhower, plus three additional historical scenes to complete the printing sheet at 36. The offered set is, as noted, virtually unimprovable, with fully 32 of the 36 cards in sparkling PSA 8 holders, and the remaining four not far behind at PSA 7 and 7.5. The four outliers: card Nos. 1 and 2, plus No. 19 Lincoln are PSA 7s, and No. 4 John Adams is PSA 7.5. That leaves luminaries like Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Jackson, Grant, FDR, Truman, Ike and the others at PSA 8. Turns out, somebody decided to treat our Presidents like royalty.
