This is easily one of the coolest collectibles you will run across today, a full sheet of the 1960 Baseball Tag-Ons Pittsburgh Pirates, a rare and unique piece that features the World Series-winning ball club in all its full-color glory in charming die-cut stickers. All eight starters from the fabled team are present, including most notably Roberto Clemente, along with two of the pitching stars, Bob Friend and reliever Roy Face. Depending upon which part of the advertising patter on the sleeve you are consulting, these are either Tag-Ons or Tag-Outs, but either way they are really neat. Produced by the Richard Lawrence Co. of Pittsburgh, the stickers are nifty “action poses” of the Pirates on a 10 ¼-by-16 ¼-inch sheet, seemingly without issues. The sleeve, nearly as pristine as the sheet, with pitching ace Friend appearing in full color against multiple spot-color panels. The back of the sleeve provides a checklist with facsimile signatures and handy instructions on how to operate. Fascinating advertising lingo on the front of the sleeve refers to them alternately as Tag-Ons or “The New Plastic Tag-Outs,” along with urging youngsters to “Pep Up Your … Wall, Shirts, Books, Mirrors or any surface.” As noted, this is the lineup that propelled the Pirates to an improbable National League Pennant in 1960 and a jaw-dropping World Series upset over the vaunted Yankees. Herewith: Clemente, Mazeroski, Groat, Burgess, Friend, Face, Stuart, Hoak, Virdon and Skinner.
