Presented is an outstanding artifact from early in the career of Hall of Famer Joe Torre, who earned a Cooperstown nod on the basis of his managerial record but might have ended up there after a standout playing career as well. The coveted Milwaukee Braves uniforms remain a favorite for advanced collectors, and this 1962 version from such an important player is a standout example, with some notable professional restoration. The talon zipper is original for the off-white medium-weight flannel, with black/red/black collar, zipper path and sleeve-end accent piping. The famed Braves and Tomahawk logo have been very professionally restored, with outline and thread remnants visible from the interior. The Screaming Brave patch on the left sleeve is original and similarly outstanding. Torre’s No. 15 front and back have also been professionally restored, again with outline and thread remnants visible from the interior. Along with that aforementioned restoration, another important feature is the collar team swatch tag on white felt with “Torre J. Set 2 – 1962”; a Wilson Size 44 tail label is straight-stitch affixed. In addition to his four World Series titles as manager of the Yankees, Torre boasts sterling HOF credentials from his playing career, socking 252 homers and batting .297 in an 18-year stint that includes a 1971 batting title and MVP Award, along with nine All-Star selections.
