Presented is an impressive grouping of the popular 1962 Post Cereal Baseball issue, found here in its highly coveted form of complete or partial panels, easing some of the concerns typically attributed to relying on the scissoring skills of an earlier generation of American youth. The offered lot is enormous, constituting slightly more than ½ of a complete set (105/200) but also including 170 duplicates, often with Hall of Famers or many of the great stars and All-Stars of the era. While some of the key Hall of Famers are AWOL from this group, there are still nearly 30 Hall of Famers, including two Aarons, two Berras and two Cepedas, and fully seven outstanding examples of the No. 1 card in the issue, Bill Skowron. The condition-sensitive first card is always a premium in any vintage offering, it becomes doubly important in a food issue where those aforementioned scissoring skills would have come into play. In addition, there are seven Panels featuring the trio of Al Kaline, Maury Wills and Harvey Kuenn. This was General Mills’ second of three important baseball card sets that would ultimately be a significant addition to the classic 1960s Topps mainstream issues. With such a lofty pedigree comes great cachet, with most of the larger or complete panels reasonably cut well outside the card image surfaces. Even with the smaller panels of six, five and four cards, the cutting is well done and rarely intrudes on card edges. There are a handful of condition outliers, with perhaps a half-dozen or so individual cards reaching mostly Fair and are detailed below. The vast majority of the sheets are complete, even with the upper-left corner advertising Panels (seven-card), or complete with the advertising section trimmed from the top (five and six-card Panels). Given the format of panels, there are a total of 275 cards included, with some obvious duplication, even among Hall of Famers. Overall, it comes out to 18 Seven-Card Panels (16/18 complete; two with the advertising panel cut from the upper-left corner), seven Panels of six cards (one complete, four complete with the ad trimmed from the top and two with a single card cut from a Seven-Card Panel), 19 Panels with five cards (15 complete with ad trimmed from the top and two partials), and three Panels with four cards, including the No. 1 Skowron. Breakdown of keys by panels: Seven-Card Panels: 1) Clemente/Berra/Ashburn (Fair, Good and Poor, respectively), 2) Brooks Robinson (2), 3) Maris (Fair), 4) Fox and Richardson (2). 5) Cepeda and Pinson (2 – one sheet is Fair), 6) Mazeroski, 7) Kaline/Kuenn/Wills (6) and 8) Colavito (2 – one sheet is Poor); Six-Card Panels: 1) Aaron and Berra (one card cut out, Lemon card is Poor), 2) Kaline/Kuenn/Wills (one card cut out), 3) Killebrew, 4) Ford, and 5) Torre; and Five-Card Panels: 1) Aaron and Yogi (partial sheet), 2) Fox (2 – second sheet is Fair), 3) Skowron No. 1 (6), 4) Power and Gentile (3), 5) Gentile and Simmons (3), and 6) Cash and Billy Williams (2).
