Presented is a genuinely unique item, the charming pillbox-style Phillies cap from the Bicentennial year that boasts attribution to the Hall of Famer third baseman, if not outright game-worn designation. The rare cap style boasts the three horizontal braids against the maroon pillbox-shaped cap, with embroidered “P” Phillies’ logo with white beanie and mesh interior and white polyester headband. A large marker “20” appears on the green underbill and matches exemplars; New Era Pro Model labeling appears inside, along with Size 7 ¼ flap tag. Seemingly the biggest factor stalling direct game-worn status surrounds the cap size, jostled by the exotic, bushy hairstyles of the silly 70s. Schmidt – and a whole bunch of other folks – had a lot of hair in those days, with a majority of Schmidt caps coming in at Size 7 ½. In any event, it’s a truly rare cap style linked to one of the greatest stars in Philadelphia baseball history.
