This 8.5x11 American Merchants Union Express Company stock certificate arrives signed by William Fargo as president, J.N. Knapp as secretary and E.P. Ross as treasurer. The certificate is from Dec. 13, 1868 and entitles Hawley Cady of Amsterdam to five shares of stock. William G. Fargo, who served as Secretary and President of the American Express Company (1850-1868 and 1868-1881) signed this certificate for the American Merchants Union Express Company, which evolved from American Express. From 1868 to his death in Buffalo, he was president of the American Express Company, with which in 1868 the Merchants Union Express Co. was consolidated. The beautiful certificate has a 5-cent stamp affixed, is No. 545 and shows cancellation marks with a hole punch, but is professionally double-matted and framed. The signatures are authenticated by PSA/DNA with a full LOA.
