Presented here is a framed and exceptional example of Philadelphia's Evening and Sunday Bulletin newspaper premium of 1950—a panoramic print of the city's "Whiz Kids," the Fightin' Phillies. This cool black-and-white image of 30 of the organization's membership is now double-matted and framed, measuring 39-1/4" x 13-1/4" in outer dimension and revealing 34-1/8" x 8-1/2" of the contained image's surface. Two minor faults appear upon close inspection: a 1/2"-tall vertical kink at the upper left edge and a razor-thin and a small brown spot in the lower right. (Neither small imperfection has any impact and both are almost invisible.) EX/MT to NM appearance, overall. Included with the panorama is a 29-1/2"-long red felt pennant that celebrates the 1950 Phillies capturing of that season's National League Championship. This pennant does not have any of the usual trailing ties on the left edge and displays no evidence of ever having any in the first place. EX in appearance. After finishing a distant 3rd in 1949, manager Eddie Sawyer led the "Whiz Kids" to the N.L. Pennant the following year. The sparkplug of the team, Hall of Famer Richie Ashburn, batted .303 and led the N.L. with 14 triples, while Del Ennis hit .311 and paced the League with 126 RBI. Robin Roberts led the pitching staff with a 20-11 record, followed by Curt Simmons at 17-8. The leader of the bullpen was Jim Konstanty, who had a 16-7 record and finished 62 games. Quality pieces, each celebrating one of Philadelphia's most memorable teams!
