This is a really nice opportunity to pick up more than half of this popular Fleer issue from 56 years ago, all in a consistent upper condition range that while technically Very Good to Excellent – Mint really presents at least a rung up from that, arguably Excellent to Ex-Mt. The 1959 Fleer issue was Fleer’s inaugural effort in producing major league baseball cards, which they launched with a five-year exclusive contract with the great Ted Williams as he approached the end of his fabled career. This grouping would be a great start on an upper-end condition set: as noted earlier, most of the cards that are designated as Very Good (18) actually present closer to Ex-Mt, with the lower ranking because of visible but not unsettling gum stains on the back. The breakdown: Excellent to Mint (15) – No. 8, 19, 21, 25, 26, 28, 33, 36, 39, 40, 49, 50, 52, 62 and 77; Excellent (9) – No. 6 o/c, 27, 37, 43, 46, 53, 56, 60 and 89; Very Good (18) – No. 4, 23, 29, 31, 32, 34, 38, 47, 48, 51, 54, 55, 59, 61, 65, 66, 71 and 80; Good (5) – No. 30, 35, 44, 72 and 76.
