This is a corrected version of earlier entries; we apologize for any inconvenience. This lot represents a great opportunity to pick up a nice, collectible version of one of the great peripheral issues of the 1960’s, the Post Cereal baseball cards that were printed as part of the back of cereal boxes and severely challenged the precision scissoring skills of a generation of American youth. In this instance, the cutting effort wasn’t too shabby, certainly a bit better than the issue is typically found in older collections. Six of the cards in this near-set are actually from the nearly identical Jello issue of the same year: No. 4 Rollins, No. 9 Pascual, No.13 Richardson, No. 15 Mantle, No. 86 Lumpe and No. 119 Davis. The cards – a complete set missing only card No. 172 Billy Williams – are in generally Very Good to Ex-Mt condition, with some above and below and presenting in a nice, reasonably consistent fashion in an issue that often makes that aspiration problematic. The 1963 Post Cereal and Jello sets are nearly identical, with the former in the standard 2 1/2-by-3 1/2-inch format and the Jello cards slightly smaller at 3 3/8 inches across. The breakdown of key cards: No. 5 Killebrew – Poor, 15 Mantle – Poor, 7 Berra – Fair, 19 Ford – Very Good, 36 Fox – Fair, 37 Aparicio – Excellent, 51 Kaline – Ex-Mt, 53 Bunning – Ex-Mt, 59 Brooks Robinson – Ex, 66 Roberts – Ex, 80 Yastrzemski – Good, 101 Cepeda – Ex-Mt, 106 Mays – Fair, 109 Marichal – Ex, 112 McCovey – Ex, 118 Snider – VG, 121 Koufax – Ex, 123 Drysdale – Ex, 131 Frank Robinson – Ex-Mt, 140 – Poor, 145 Clemente – VG, 152 Aaron – Ex, 156 Torre – Ex-Mt, 166 Gibson – Poor, 169 Banks – Ex-Mt, 170 Santo – Ex-Mt, and 197 Ashburn – Poor.
