This is yet another outstanding example of the famed original Hartland baseball statues that were produced by the Wisconsin-based toy company from 1958-63, in this instance with the original box and player tag. The Eddie Mathews statue is in Near-Mint condition, with an excellent painting effort and nice white uniform that has resisted any temptation to yellowing. The Near-Mint designation applies as well to the red tag that is draped around the player’s neck; the original Hartland box is probably closer to Fair condition as a technical designation, though it presents much better than that. The box has a small tear on one flap that does detract markedly from the presentation, and there is some minor creasing and light, almost miniscule paper loss (thumbnail size) on the upper right-side panel. It’s a great opportunity to pick up a statue of one of the hometown Milwaukee Braves who were some of the top sellers – Aaron, Mathews and Spahn – in the fabled series that was offered at department stores and drug stores at the time.
