This is an almost unimprovable example of the first series of the important 1971 Topps Football issue, presented here in essentially Near-Mint to Mint condition, with a few Near-Mint cards and an overall look that is nothing short of sensational. The condition-sensitive red and blue full-bleed border colors are bold and vivid; cards boast sharp corners and good gloss, with a strikingly consistent overall presentation and no discernible difference between the condition of the top Hall of Famers and the larger grouping. Perhaps 10-20 cards have centering issues that might prompt an upgrade – No. 1 Unitas is Near-Mint o/c, No. 10 Alworth o/c and No. 25 Butkus is Near-Mint to Mint m/c – though not all of those would be extreme enough to demand an off-center precise designation. It’s difficult to imagine finding the set in a more pristine and largely as-issued original condition.
