With the expansion of the modern card-collecting hobby in the early 1990’s came the phenomenon of serial-numbered cards, and Leaf was an early leader in the genre, producing this elegant and imposing series of Elite Series and Legends Series cards, all numbered and limited and featuring many of the great (eventual) Hall of Famers and stars of the era. For 1990 and 1991 Leaf Elite, complete sets are offered, with extras of many of the cards. Here’s the breakdown, with quantities in parenthesis (cards are Near-Mint to Mint): 1990 Leaf Elite Series, limited to 10,000 – No. 1 Bonds, 2 Brett, 3 Canseco, 4 Dawson, 5 Drabek, 6 Fielder (3), 7 Henderson (2) and 8 Williams; 1991 Leaf Elite Series, limited to 10,000 – No. 9 Boggs (2), 10 Carter (4), 11 Clark (3), 12 Gooden (2), 13 Griffey (2), 14 Gwynn (3), 15 Howard Johnson (3), 16 Pendleton (3), 17 Puckett (3) and 18 Thomas (3); 1990 Leaf Legends, limited to 7,500 (Nolan Ryan), and 1991 Leaf Legends, limited to 7,500, Ricky Henderson (3).
