Buck Weaver, a member of the infamous 1919 Black Sox, has reached cult status in the collecting world. His cards routinely sell for more than Hall of Famers from the same sets in which he appears and his status as an important figure in the Black Sox Scandal exceeds that of his teammates, with the exception of Joe Jackson. Weaver appears in very few issues and this is an outstanding example of what is perhaps Weaver's most magnificent card: his 1911 T212 Obak Cigarettes card, which pictures him with San Francisco of the Pacific Coast League, before his major league playing days with the Chicago White Sox. It is arguably one of the most important minor-league cards extant. As a member of the “Banned Eight,” Weaver emerged as almost a sympathetic figure in the scandal, professing his innocence throughout his life. This is an extremely attractive card of Weaver in full uniform posing in his batting stance with a blazing green background. This Obak card is usually found in far lower grades than this stunning PSA 2. The card is nicely centered and is a standout example of the most hotly pursued card in this important issue.
