Presented here is yet another striking array of 1962 Topps Baseball cards, including seven Hall of Famers, in blazing Ex-Mt to Ex-Mt-Plus condition, headlined by one of the key cards in the set, the No. 1 Roger Maris in an SGC 82 holder. That’s an imposing resume for an issue that up to that time was the most condition sensitive that Topps had ever produced, with the black borders of 1971 almost a decade away. The wood-grain full-bleed borders in 1962 would tend to show even the slightest dings and nicks, making this grouping of Ex-Mt and better cards all the more impressive. This lot includes eight cards that have been slabbed and graded, with the grades nicely conforming to the Ex-Mt of better assessment. The lineup of the 133-card group includes the seven Hall of Famers and many of the specials that were another highlight of the iconic 1962 issue, most notably the Series II Babe Ruth subset, several Team and World Series cards and the All-Star subsets for both American and National Leagues, along with the charming “Combo” cards that were a Topps mainstay for finding ways to produce additional pasteboards of some of the biggest stars in the game. There are also nearly two dozen cards from the difficult high-number series, one of the toughest of the decade for Topps. This is an array that could serve handsomely as a launch on a high-grade set or to an existing set. The cards are remarkably uniform and consistent, with startling, vivid colors, sharp photo registration and great gloss. In short, great specimens of one of the toughest Topps vintage issues ever produced. Slabbed cards (8): No. 1 Maris – SGC 82, 30 Mathews – PSA 6, 235 World Series Subset – PSA 6, 300 Mays – PSA 6, 381 Mantle Thrill – PSA 6, 360 Berra – PSA 6, 530 Gibson – PSA 6, and 591 Rookie – PSA 6.
