Regarded among the finest large-format baseball collectibles in the early years of the 20th Century – and this in an era that included the remarkable T3 Turkey Red cabinet cards – the fabled M101-2 Sporting News Supplements feature sepia-toned images of professional players on a heavy cardboard stock, most typically with blank backs. The elegant roughly 8 ½-by-10-inch photograph includes printing on the front that notes “Supplement to The Sporting News St. Louis, Nov. 16, 1911.” The player’s name – in this instance John E. McInnis and “Athletics American League” – are printed on the bottom. Presented here in a BGS 2 (Good) holder, the supplement (No. 73, though the cards themselves are unnumbered) actually presents in a far superior condition, probably Excellent, that earns the Good designation only because of a lengthy crease of about 8 inches that is visible only on the back.
