Regarded among the finest large-format baseball collectibles in the early years of the 20th Century – and this in an era that included the remarkable T3 Turkey Red cabinet cards – the fabled M101-2 Sporting News Supplements feature sepia-toned images of professional players on a heavy cardboard stock, most typically with blank backs. The elegant roughly 7-by-10-inch photograph includes printing on a bannered top that notes “Supplement to The Sporting News St. Louis, Aug. 26, 1909.” The player’s name – in this instance Sherwood Magee and “Philadelphia National League” – are printed on the bottom. Presented here in a BGS 3 (Very Good) holder, the supplement (No. 7, though the cards themselves are unnumbered) actually presents in a far superior condition, probably Ex-Mt-Plus, that earns the Very Good designation only because of very light creasing that is visible only on the back.
