Here are four peripheral issues from 1968-69, three from Topps and the final from Globe Imports, all picturing many of the biggest stars of the era in unusual formats quite distinct from more conventional mainstream issues. The 1968 Topps Game cards (33) were inserted in Topps Baseball packs that year, with the 2 ¼-by-3 ¼-inch cards featuring the likes of Mickey Mantle, Henry Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays and Pete Rose, among others. The cards here are a solid Ex-Mt to Near-Mint, with the emphasis to the upper end of the scale. Another Topps insert from a year later, the 1969 Deckle Edge set (33) boasts a similarly impressive lineup, including Mays, Clemente, Rose and Carl Yastrzemski, presented in an unusual 2 ¼-by-3 1/4-inch cards with scalloped edges that could make condition a concern. This group is largely Excellent to Ex-Mt, with more than dozen cards with centering concerns, though not all of those would necessarily be severe enough to prompt an official off-center qualifier. The third element of the lot is the 1969 Topps Decals, complete at 48, the 1 ¾--by-2 1/8-inch sheets that are a strong Ex-Mt to Near-Mint, with the emphasis to Near-Mint. The final element in the lot is a complete set – factory sealed in original cellophane – of the quirky 1969 Globe Imports Playing Card set. With a playing-card theme, the 1 5/8-by-2 ¼-inch cards (52) feature the modern stars of the day plus Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle, the former long since deceased and the latter having hung up his spikes following the 1968 season.
