This is a spectacular combination piece highlighted by a pristine intact and unopened pouch of vintage Pinch Hit Chewing Tobacco, complemented by a blazing, colorful metal advertising sign that is resplendent in red, white and blue. The pouch is 3 ½-by-5 inches (1 ¼ inch deep), with vivid red, white and blue graphics displaying lightning bolts surrounding a hand holding a baseball, with “Pinch Hit Chewing Tobacco” and the 15 Cents price for the 3-ounce package. An Internal Revenue Stamp adorns the top, intact but with only a tiny tear that doesn’t distract from a presentation that is easily Ex-Mt. The pouch also comes with its original wax paper covering, in similarly outstanding condition with only minor staining and the expected loss of adhesive from a near century. The pouch is housed in a 6-by-8 1/4-inch museum-quality textured black display box, with glass front and cushioning material at the bottom. The complementary piece with the pouch is a marvelous 9 ½-by-14-inch vintage metal advertising sign trumpeting the same Pinch Hit Chewing Tobacco and picturing batter along with the pouch, all in the same striking red, white and blue color scheme. The sign is in similarly superb condition, jostled hardly at all by the expected slight rusting along the edges and around the prepunched holes at each corner. There is barely a whisper of any paint chipping or scuffing; this is a handsome companion piece to an important early tobacco-themed artifact.
