The very same tobacco conglomerates that launched the 20th Century baseball card phenomenon at the same time produced a wide range of truly striking non-sport offerings, typically with elegant, colorful paintings that depicted everything – and everyone – from actors, Indians, birds, animals, cowboys, and, in this case, the World’s Greatest Explorers. The 2 1/2-by-3 ¼-inch cards are housed in nine-pocket sheets and a binder are found here in the kind of wide condition range that is fairly typical when these are located in older collections, with about ½ of the group approaching Very Good, about a half dozen Good and a handful reaching Fair and Poor.
