Along with shining the spotlight on pop culture genres of every description, Topps and the handful of erstwhile competitors ventured into the non-sport arena with gusto in the 1950’s and 1960’s, and the nation’s time-honored regard its firemen and fire departments proved to be fertile ground. Presented here is a great example of the attractive 1953 Bowman issue that featured dramatic color depictions of trucks and fire equipment through the ages. The 2 ½-by-3 ¾-inch cards are found in a mostly Excellent condition, with a few below and several reaching Ex-Mt, housed in eight-pocket sheets in a binder and boasting a very nice consistent look, with vivid colors and good gloss. About 20 cards have the kind of centering that might typically prompt an upgrade, though not all of those would be severe enough to dictate a formal off-center designation. Several dozen have minor pen notations in the upper-right corner on the back, typically one of two digits, all of which is very unobtrusive. The six missing numbers: 4, 12, 16, 31, 40 and 43.
