Chuck Connors, the lanky first baseman-turned-television superstar, is the proud subject of two of the great minor league cards from his professional baseball career, and the earlier one, his 1950 Big League Stars card, is offered here. The 1950 Big League Stars issue is a 48-card blank-backed production that features International League players in a 3 ¼-by-2 5/8-inch format with a black-and-white photograph and brief biographical information in English and French. Offered here is a PSA 2 example of the key card. Like its Mother’s Cookies counterpart from two years later, the Connors card No. 2 is also the most expensive card in the issue, though in this case by not quite as wide a margin. The second-most expensive card in the issue is Tommy Lasorda, Connor’s Montreal Royals teammate who would ultimately go on to a Hall of Fame career as a manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
