Presented here is a sparkling complete set from the elegant 1953 Mother’s Cookies issue found here in a blazing condition considerably better than these cards are typically found in older collections. The two years of production by Mother’s Cookies, arguably the most important minor-league issues extant and distributed in limited quantities primarily on the West Coast, included a couple of Hall of Famers and one iconic television personality, the latter card of Chuck Connors offered as a separate lot in this auction. The unique 2 13/16-by-3 1/2-inch cards portray Pacific Coast League Players and were issued with packages of cookies, with a total of 63 cards comprising a complete set in 1953, the final year of distribution. The cards, with elegant pastel backgrounds in several colors and full-bleed borders that make them particularly condition sensitive, also have rounded corners and a very imposing and distinctive presentation. The offered lot from 1953 includes a total of 63 cards composing a complete set in an issue rarely found in this fashion, with the condition range essentially Ex-Mt to Near-Mint, with the emphasis to the upper end of the range. This is simply an extraordinary set, with blazing vivid colors and crisp, seemingly untouched corners. It provides a wonderful and consistent presentation from an issue that is extraordinarily difficult to find in such high grades, given the limited production and precarious distribution in cookie packages.
