Here’s one you don’t see every day: a partial set from nearly 50 years ago with cards so pristine they seemingly defy the passage of time. This stunning array of Near-Mint or even better cards from 1970 Topps Baseball – presented in a binder - would simply have been described as Mint 30 years ago and hardly anyone would have blinked. The group, which represents about 79 percent of a complete set, includes two dozen Hall of Famers, 10 All-Stars, 10 Team cards, six League Leaders and four Checklists. About five dozen cards have the kind of centering that might typically prompt an upgrade, though certainly not all of those would be severe enough to dictate a formal off-center designation. The Hall of Fame lineup includes Aparicio, Brooks Robinson, Billy Williams, Ted Williams, Torre, Anderson, Niekro, Jenkins, Weaver, Wilhelm, Durocher, Bunning, Perez, Fingers, Schoendienst, Marichal, Morgan, Killebrew, Hunter, Brock, Alston and Mazeroski. It’s barely conceivable you could find better condition cards to launch on building a complete set.
