Fifty-four years ago when the Beatles invaded America, Topps was ready to go with an invasion of its own as the card maker rolled out set after set of bubble gum cards featuring the Fab Four in an attempt to cash in on the biggest phenomenon of the time. Offered here are 165 cards from those giddy days, with the group primarily from the first two series of black-and-white Beatles cards, a smaller array of almost four dozen cards from the Color issue and a handful of others from “Hard Day’s Night” and “Beatle’s Diary.” The standard 2 ½-by-3 ½-inch cards from each segment picture the legendary stars in virtually every aspect of their hectic and historic lives. From the first two series of the Black-and-White issue comes a total of 115 cards, with a good bit of duplication and an overall condition range that is relatively wide, mostly Very Good to Ex-Mt, with a few cards above and below the range and with the emphasis to Excellent. A little over 40 percent of the group have either minor tape residue or slight paper loss on the back from having been affixed and a handful have some extraneous writing on the back.
