This is a nice example of a popular vintage Topps baseball issue from the Golden Decade of the 1950s, a 1958 complete set in an overall condition of basically Very Good to Ex-Mt, with some above and below and the emphasis probably to Excellent. Almost 20 percent reaches Ex-Mt and a dozen or so Near-Mint, headlined by three key cards that have been slabbed in grades above the broader condition range: No. 1 Ted Williams – BVG 5.5, No. 150 Mantle – BVG 7 and No. 47 Maris Rookie – BVG 5. The issue boasts background panels of blazing colors that mark it as one of the unique design efforts in a decade noted for its iconic presentations. The card stock in 1958 was thought to be a bit softer than in surrounding years, making condition – even in collector grades – a particularly vital element.
