Presented here is a particularly attractive grouping of blazing 1963 Topps Baseball cards, an array that is essentially Near-Mint or even better, including a handful of Hall of Famers, many stars and All-Stars and a host of specials. Topps photography took a huge leap forward in 1963 and this grouping of cards clearly from vending puts that improved technology to good effect, with vivid, sharp colors, brilliant contrast with bold color panels, excellent gloss and a simply striking presentation. Displaying the coveted “vending bend,” the array of cards generally exhibits little of the dreaded chipping that typically confronts this issue on the bright color panels. The roster features five Hall of Famers, all seven Checklist cards, 11 Team cards, many of the Rookie cards and several of the Combination cards, along with dozens of the great stars and All-Stars from the era. As noted above, the array – with a bit of duplication - is broadly Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, with some below mostly to Ex-Mt and perhaps five dozen monsters reaching the upper end of the spectrum to Near-Mint to Mint. The grouping offers enormous potential for bidders on several fronts: to begin building a stunning complete set (about 60 percent provided here) or to upgrade even the nicest of existing sets. Given the superior condition, we have provided information that is comprehensive in detailing individual cards but the listing requires a bit of careful examination in the execution. Because Nos. 1-450 are so heavily represented, we have listed the missing numbers from that range rather than the cards included; above No. 450 we list the cards that are present in the grouping. As is fairly typical with cards from vending, centering can vary a bit, and this grouping has perhaps 1/3 or so found with the kind of centering that might prompt thoughts of an upgrade, though not all of those would be severe enough to warrant an official “off center” designation. Keys (Near-Mint except where noted): No. 13 Phillies Team, 18 Buc Blasters, 39 Angels Team, 43 Veteran Masters, 63 Reds Team, 131 Senators Team (2), 135 Ashburn (Ex-Mt o/c), 151 Pirates Team, 162 Twins Team, 202 Red Sox Team (2), 302 Herzog, 312 Colts Team, 323 Mazeroski o/c, 328 Williams o/c, 365 Bunning and 451 Indians Team. Missing numbers from No. 1 to No. 450: Nos. 1-10, 15, 20, 25, 31, 35, 54, 58, 60, 67, 68, 81, 95, 108, 113, 115, 118, 120, 125-128, 130, 138, 142-144, 146-148, 154, 160, 165, 169, 172, 173, 175, 193, 200, 205, 210, 212, 218, 222, 228, 233, 234, 239, 242, 245, 247, 250, 252-254, 260, 265, 269-272, 275, 286-288, 290, 300, 306, 308, 309, 320, 324, 329, 331, 337, 339, 340, 343, 345, 347, 349, 353, 355, 360, 369, 370, 375-377, 380, 382-384, 386-392, 394, 398-401, 404, 405, 407-413, 415-417, 420, 421, 423-425, 427-429, 432-434, 436, 437, 439-441, 443 and 446-450.
