Offered here are a pair of spectacular near sets from 1967 and 1968 Topps football, sets missing some key cards but otherwise sporting a right-off-the-presses patina that marks the lot as an unusual opportunity even in the face of some AWOL stars. The 1967 near set is incredibly uniform in the way you would hope: blazing Near-Mint to Mint rockets, with superb color and gloss and boasting a look that says untouched and virtually as-issued a half-century ago. That’s a curriculum vitae that stands up well even in the face of four missing pasteboards: No. 24 Kemp, No. 82 McDaniel, No. 98 Namath and No. 132 Checklist. Fast forward one year and the 1968 entry is nearly as imposing, probably a mere whisper below its companion piece from 1967 in terms of condition, closer to something like mostly Near-Mint, with some below to Ex-Mt or even Excellent and some above to Near-Mint to Mint. The AWOL roster of 10 cards: No. 1, 100, 101, 103, 127, 130, 153, 161, 162 and 205.
