This is an array of nine of the cards from the 1952 Wheaties set that included 20 baseball players in a series that featured athletes from several sports in 2-by-2 ¾-inch cards that appeared on the cereal boxes. This group includes Hall of Famers Ted Williams, Stan Musial, George Kell, Phil Rizzuto and Bob Lemon, with both Portrait and Action versions for Musial and Lemon. The cards are cut broadly in fairly typical fashion for the genre, which is to say sometimes ineptly as youngsters contended with the rounded corners. Here’s the breakdown: Lemon Action and Portrait cards are poorly cut; Musial Portrait presents Excellent but has an imperfect cut and the Action version is Very Good; Kell Action – Very Good; Rizzuto Action – Good; Roe Portrait is Very Good and Action has an imperfect cut; and Ted Williams Portrait is poorly cut.
