This white, knit, button-down home Yankee jersey is attributed to first baseman and outfielder Mike Hegan on the basis of the embroidered tagging at the collar; the No. 55 on the back was not used by the Yankees major league club prior to 1979, with the shirt passed down to a minor-league affiliate. The handsome shirt features the familiar navy-blue pinstripe pattern and the famous interlocking “NY” on the left breast. The lower left front tail has the “Wilson” manufacturer’s size 42 tag, and a white strip tag with “74 Set 2” stitched in navy blue thread. Within the collar is a strip tag with “Hegan” also stitched in navy blue thread; the name “Werly,” a minor leaguer in the Yankees’ system from 1977-83, is handwritten in market at the collar beneath the “Hegan” tagging. The reverse has a bold No. 55 in blue tackle twill. There is visible wear on this jersey, and a number change on the back is apparent from the inside. There is some fraying of the delicate stitching on the NOB.
