Arguably the most unusual baseball card offering of all time is now more than 100 years old, the charming 2 1/8-by-4 11/16-inch Mecca Double Folders, which pictures two players per card with a daring fold-over arrangement that permits them to inexplicably share a pair of legs. The unique issue is presented here in a nice array that is in markedly better condition than these delicate cards are typically found in mature collections. The 16-card grouping represents almost 1/3 of a complete set and includes some of the legendary figures of the period like Walter Johnson, Tris Speaker, Iron Man McGinnity, Hughie Jennings and Chief Bender. Here’s the breakdown of the unnumbered issue: Bender/Oldring – Excellent, Blair/Hartzell – Ex-Plus, Clarke/Byrne – Good, Daubert/Rucker – Ex-Plus, Donovan/Stroud – Very Good, Downs/Oldwell – Ex-Plus, Doyle/Meyer – Ex-Plus, Dygert/Seymour – Ex-plus, Gardner/Speaker – Good, Gaspar/Clarke – Good, Gibson/Leach – Ex, Hickman/Hinchman – Ex, Jennings/Summers – Ex-Plus, Johnson/Street – VG, McCabe/McGinnity – VG m/c, and Williams/Woodruff – Good.
