This is a rare opportunity to pick up a high-grade complete set of one of the more unusual postwar baseball card issues, the quirky 1948 Swell Gum Sport Thrills, produced by the same company, Philadelphia Gum, which would produce mainstream NFL cards in the mid-1960s. These 2 7/16-by-3-inch black-and-white cards depicted many of the great stars in recounting memorable moments of baseball history. The offered set is in a truly outstanding, uniform and consistent condition, primarily Excellent to Near-Mint, with six SGC-slabbed cards providing a nice glimpse into the broader condition range. It comes out to 25 percent Near-Mint and 75 percent Excellent to Ex-Mt, broken down as follows: No. 1 – Excellent, No. 2 – Ex-Mt-Plus, No. 3 Jackie Robinson – SGC 60, No. 4 Walter Johnson – SGC 70, No. 5 – Near-Mint, No. 6 – Near-Mint, No. 7 – Near-Mint, No. 8 – Carl Hubbell – Ex-Mt-Plus, No. 9 Greatest Catch – SGC 84, No. 10 – Johnny Vander Meer – Near-Mint, No. 11 – Excellent, No. 12 Babe Ruth – SGC 80, No. 13 – Ex-Mt-Plus, No. 14 Gehrig – SGC 60, No. 15 – Excellent, No. 16 Ted Williams – SGC 80, No. 17 – Excellent-Plus, No. 18 – Pee Wee Reese – Ex-Mt-Plus, No. 19 Bob Feller – Ex-Mt and No. 20 – Ex-Mt-Plus.
