Presented is an intriguing artifact from the second year of the Texas Rangers’ tenure below the Mason-Dixon Line, a circa 1973 road jersey that was originally issued to Mike Paul. The shirt shows extensive use, with likely use in spring training and in the minor leagues by Art Defilippis, whose last name appears on the back of the shoulders in red tackle twill sewn directly to the shirt. Wilson Size 42 tagging appears at the collar and there is evidence of a nameplate removed that once had the name “Defilippis”; other names “Thompson” and “Farris” appear inside in various spots in handwritten black marker. The name and number have been changed and the red-and-blue tackle twill has faded and puckered a bit on spots of “Rangers” across the front; same could be said of the No. 30 on the back at the name across the back.
