Offered is a striking example of the colorful Star Co. basketball issues that sustained the basketball collecting arena for the interval of 1983-85 after the withdrawal of Topps and the arrival of Fleer three years later. This 1984 Star Co. Slam Dunk set of 11 features many of the most prolific practitioners of that most peculiar and exciting hoop maneuvers in cards that are Near-Mint or Near-Mint to Mint or better, and headlined by the likes of No. 3 Drexler (BGS 8.5), No. 4 Erving (BGS 9.5), No. 9 Wilkins (BGS 9) and the Group Picture (BGS 8.5). The Star Co. issues bridged the gap from 1983-85 with products of singular quality, cards that were never issued in the conventional fashion in packs with gum but rather were sold in individual team or subset packs through card dealers across the country. It didn't hurt that the company’s tenure coincided with the exploding popularity of Michael Jordan, quickly becoming the biggest star in the history of the NBA and beyond.
