Presented is a fine example of the important Star Co. basketball issues that sustained the basketball collecting arena for the interval of 1983-85 after the withdrawal of Topps and the arrival of Fleer three years later. This 1986 Best of New/Old set of 8, showcasing many of the biggest stars in the NBA – Olajuwon, Ewing, Erving, Sampson, Abdul-Jabbar, Gervin and Walton - features cards that are Near-Mint or Near-Mint to Mint or better, and is headlined by a Michael Jordan No. 2 in a BGS 8 holder. The Star Co. issues bridged the gap from 1983-85 with products of singular quality, cards that were never issued in the conventional fashion in packs with gum but rather were sold in individual team or subset sealed bags through card dealers across the country. It didn't hurt that the company’s tenure coincided with the exploding popularity of Michael Jordan, quickly becoming the biggest star in the history of the NBA and beyond.
