Ned Garver was the archetypical workhorse starting pitcher who would labor for four American League clubs in the 1950s and compile a lifetime log of 129-157 with a 3.73 ERA and 681 strikeouts. He was a highly regarded pitcher, most notably in 1951 when he won 20 games for a moribund St. Louis Browns franchise that would manage to win a mere 52 games that season amid another 8th place finish. For these incredible heroics he was awarded his only All-Star appearance and a second-place finish in the MVP balloting. Presented is a nifty group of Garver items, including St. Louis Browns stirrup socks, a Browns uniform dickey and Garver’s 1949 Bowman Rookie card, a blazing Near-Mint monster further enhanced by an attractive Garver ballpoint signature and the Ned Garver Day broadside. The native Ohioan was lauded by the Defiance, Ohio, Chamber of Commerce with “Ned Garver Day” on Oct. 14, 1951. This handsome 17-by-26-inch broadside presents in Excellent condition, jostled only by some slight paper loss near the bottom-left edge that does not detract from the presentation. The dickey is in nice condition, jostled only by several small holes; the brown stirrup socks show game use (small tear and hole) and have “33” embroidered in orange. A Certificate of Authenticity from Garver for the dickey and socks is provided.
