August 6, 2020: Summer Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 8/6/2020
Presented are four items of an eclectic nature from the legendary Hall of Fame basketball Coach Ray Meyer of DePaul University, a signed 8-inch in diameter red-and-blue DePaul souvenir basketball, a copy of his autobiography “Coach,” an 8-by-10 color photograph depicting Meyer in original artwork and even a bowling trophy representing the coach’s talents from a very different type of hardwood venue. The DePaul souvenir basketball is in Near-Mint condition and features a blazing Meyer autograph in silver, along with a notation in his hand of “DePaul.” The 11-inch tall bowling trophy would resonate with millions of amateur keglers across the land, with a 3-by-3-inch marble base and a nameplate that notes, “Mon. Night Vets, 1977-78, 1st Place, Ray Meyer.” A charming faux gold-plated 4 ¼-inch figure of a bowler sits atop that particular pedestal, with all elements essentially Ex-Mt-Plus condition. The final two elements of the lot include a handsome Near-Mint copy of “Coach,” by Meyer with Ray Sons (a sports columnist with the Chicago Tribute at the time), 9 ¼-by-6 ¼ inches, at 264 pages with 32 pages of black-and-white photographs featured inside in two sections and a dust jacket in the same overall condition, plus a Near-Mint color photograph depicting Meyer in original artwork.
