Here is an extraordinary piece of American history from one of the most sensational news events of that grueling decade, the kidnapping of Patty Hearst by members of the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) and her subsequent participation in a bank robbery and other crimes that would ultimately lead to her conviction and imprisonment. The 16-by-10 ½-inch Wanted Poster bears multiple black-and-white photographs of Hearst, a granddaughter of legendary publisher William Randolph Hearst, and William and Emily Harris, fellow SLA members who, like Hearst, were wanted on bank robbery and weapons charges. The Wanted Poster presents nicely, probably close to Excellent, with very miniscule cracking at some of the many folds that were required to mail such documents to postmasters around the nation. Hearst was ultimately convicted of bank robbery and sentenced to seven years in prison; her sentence was first commuted by President Jimmy Carter after she had served 22 months and she later would receive a full pardon from President Bill Clinton, granted on the final day of his second term.
