Presented is an important near set of the popular 1959 Topps Football issue, the vintage offering that is brimming with Hall of Famers who made their mark in the pivotal years that helped launch the modern NFL. This near set is missing only 16 cards and is found in a consistent collector grade of mostly Very Good condition, with some Good and a few reaching Excellent. Adding to the allure of a grouping that is essentially the size of two full complete sets numerically is the inclusion of literally dozens of extra cards of many of the great names in NFL lore. The grouping has considerable duplication, ending up with almost six dozen Hall of Famers, 16 of the Team Pennant cards and almost two dozen Team cards (most of the team cards have marked checklists). A listing of the missing numbers appears at the end of this document; appearing below is a breakdown of the key cards. 1959 Topps Football – No. 1 Unitas (3) – two Very Good and one Good, No. 5 McElhenny (2), No. 10 Brown – VG, No. 20 Gifford (4, one VG-Ex and three VG), No. 40 Layne (3) – two VG-Ex and one VG, No. 41 Summerall (3), No. 44 Johnson (2), No. 50 Matson (2), No. 51 Huff (2), No. 58 St. Clair, No. 75 Ringo (5), No. 82 Hornung – VG, No. 86 Donovan (2), No. 96 Jones (5), No. 103 Karras – VG, No. 114 Brown (3), No. 132 Parker (2), No. 140 Mitchell (5), and No. 147 Robustelli (4). The missing Nos.: No. 18, 22, 23, 48, 53, 63, 80, 100, 107, 124, 125, 130, 142, 145, 155 and 172.
