This is an amazing group of turn-of-the-century postcards with a baseball theme, picturing four ostensibly generic baseball players in a unique printing process that provided a three-dimensional effect to spectacular effect. The cards have a postcard layout on the back, most notably with a 1-Cent box at right for the stamp, all in a startling Near-Mint or better condition, truly an astounding observation for an item more than a century old. Included in the lot are four of the six cards thought to be in the “set”: 1) Player Leaping, 2) Player Ball In Hand, 3) Batter, and 4) Safe. Though the delicate raised images of the players are seemingly generic, the “Safe” card is widely regarded as depicting Hall of Famer Jimmy Collins of the Red Sox. This is an amazing grouping in a condition that has to be seen to be believed.
