Presented are four vintage Topps cards from arguably the most popular player in postwar Major League Baseball, Mickey Mantle. Virtually every vintage Topps Mantle card is popular among collectors, including the hundreds of Mantle “Specials” that would dot the Topps regular-issue checklist each year as the company searched for opportunities to include additional pasteboards of the game’s most popular players. Mantle headlined that group at the time and in the intervening half century since his retirement. Here’s the breakdown: 1961 Topps No. 406 Mantle Blasts 565-Ft. HR – Ex-Plus/Near-Mint; 1962 Topps No. 318 The Switch Hitter Connects – Excellent; 1963 Topps No. 2 American League Batting Leaders (Mantle) – Ex-Plus; and 1968 Topps No. 280 (regular issue) – Good to Very Good.
