Presented is a really striking high-grade near set of the popular 1971 Topps Baseball Supers, the oversized (3 1/8-by-5 1/4 inches) cards produced on a heavy cardstock with blazing, full-bleed color photography that is widely regarded among the classic shots of the era. This near set is particularly attractive, with a Near-Mint or better presentation, boasting bright, vivid colors and sharp photo registration on the fronts and a blazing, consistent green background on the card backs. Some of the card backs have just the slightest wrinkling around the some of the sides and beveled edges, a not uncommon trait of this unusual peripheral Topps issue. The card fronts are largely problem free; a few of the cards deemed Excellent are saddled with the designation because of minor gum stains. Breakdown of some condition anomalies: No. 1 Smith – Excellent, 20 Rose – Very Good, 29 Carty – Good, 46 McCovey – Ex, and 54 Kaline – Ex. The missing card is No. 42 Ferguson Jenkins; as noted above, an extra No. 43 Stargell is included.
