This is a simply spectacular example of the colorful 1972 Topps Baseball issue in a condition that is virtually unimprovable, missing only five relatively inconsequential cards and boasting a striking Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint overall condition, with the emphasis to the upper end of the spectrum. The near set clearly has a vending pedigree, with Nos. 1-486 or so exhibiting the coveted “vending bend” that so clearly denotes uncirculated cardboard, jostled only by the typical centering vagaries found within the genre. With vivid colors and superb gloss, the array is a splendid representation of the campy 1972 psychedelic issue, arguably one of the most unique designs ever produced by Topps. The offered near set provides a remarkably consistent and uniform presentation, with virtually no discernible difference in condition between the Tier One Hall of Famers and the lowliest of commons; one significant card, the No. 761 Ogilvie/Cey Rookie card, is severely miscut. In addition to the near set, there are about 100 extras in essentially the same high grades, with perhaps a dozen or so falling below to Ex-Mt, and trumpeting a roster that includes a good deal of duplication of a number of Hall of Famers and stars. A breakdown sampling includes: No. 49 Mays (2, one is Excellent), No. 50 Mays In Action (2, Ex-Mt), No. 37 Yastrzemski (5), No. 38 Yastrzemski In Action (2), No. 51 Killebrew (3), No. 100 Frank Robinson (2), No. 130 Gibson (2) and No. 132 Morgan, plus five Checklists and 10 League Leaders.
