Yet another part of a vast childhood collection that like so many improved in condition in the later issues, this massive array of more than 900 cards from 1972 Topps Baseball is spectacular, with almost equal parts Ex-Mt to Near-Mint vs. Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, with perhaps 20 percent falling below to primarily Excellent or VG-Ex. There is some duplication, including substantial numbers even many of the top Hall of Famers. There are almost five dozen Hall of Famers included in the upper grades, and another half dozen or so below. The offered lot would provide a great opportunity to launch on completing a very high-grade example of the one of the classic Topps issues from the 1970s, the quirky and charming 1972 Baseball set that was the largest set that the Brooklyn-based behemoth had ever produced to that point. This was an issue with a remarkably distinctive design and a vast armada of “Specials,” including Boyhood images of various stars, In Action cards of many of the biggest names and even some cards depicting various individual trophies and plaques. The upper-grade lineup includes: Ryan (Ex-Plus), Clemente (Near-Mint), Jackson (Ex-Mt-Plus), Bench (2, Ex-Mt-Plus), Aaron, Mays, Rose (2), Fisk Rookie (2), Yastrzemski (3), Frank Robinson (3, plus one Traded), Carew (3), McCovey (2), Ted Williams (3), Seaver, Killebrew, Stargell, Kaline, Carlton (2, plus one Traded), Morgan, Morgan Traded, Perez (2), Brock, Aparicio (2), Niekro (2), Schoendienst (2), Wilhelm, Gibson, Torre, Jenkins (2), Palmer, Mazeroski (2), Marichal, Anderson (2), Lemon and LaRussa, plus 28 Teams, couple of dozen Boyhood subset cards, three Checklists, seven League Leaders and eight World Series, and Harrelson, Jones, McNally, Murcer, Hodges, Allen (3), Johnstone, Lonborg, Freehan, Houk, Buford (2), Foster, Cuellar, Oliver, Wills, Pinson, McLain, Agee, Felipe Alou (2), McDowell (2) and Monday.
