This is a tremendous artifact from one of the most revered players in Detroit Tigers history, the Hall of Fame catcher and manager Mickey Cochrane, writing to his wife in March of 1945 while serving in the Navy in the Pacific Theater as World War II was coming to an end. Written in ballpoint in an attractive cursive, the letter is on two pages, the initial page 10 ½-by-7 inches and the second 8-by-7 inches. Signed “Mike” at the end after opening to “Sweetheart,” the letter has some baseball content in the beginning as he describes his work as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy directing athletic competition. The piece is in virtually Near-Mint condition, save only for the expected folds from mailing. A great piece from one of the true giants in the game following the first world war, a .320 lifetime hitter who was also a three-time World Series champion, two-time American League MVP and two-time All-Star, given that the iconic contest was inaugurated well into his fabled career. Full LOA from BAS.
