This is an impressive array of blazing high-grade Topps basketball sets from the close of the 1970s, sets that are essentially unimprovable and are missing only a handful of cards, mostly commons. The set from 1977 is in sparkling Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint condition, with the emphasis clearly to the upper end of the spectrum; the sets from later years are even better, essentially Near-Mint to Mint. The cards routinely boast of vivid color and excellent gloss, making a uniform presentation, with most of the cards boasting the coveted “vending bend” that bespeaks of pristine, uncirculated cardboard. Here’s the breakdown: 1977 Topps (131/132) – is missing No. 100 Erving – No. 1 Abdul-Jabbar – Very Good, 20 Maravich – Near-Mint (m/c on the back), 56 Dantley Rookie – Near-Mint to Mint and No. 60 Thompson – Nr-Mt to Mt; 1978 Topps – three sets (3) – 132 cards each; 1979 Topps – three sets (3) – with the third set being 130/132, missing card Nos. 15 and 132; 1981 Topps – two sets (2) of 198 cards, with second set missing seven cards (191/198) – Nos. 4, 21, 30, 75E, 101E, 109W and 110MW.
