“The King of the Wild Frontier” is centerstage in this imposing array of non-sport cards based on the exploits of the iconic 1950s television and film phenomenon Davy Crockett. This is a handsome group of several hundred cards from the Orange Series and the more scarce Green Series, an accumulation that yields a full set (Green), two near sets (Orange and Green) and two partials and a couple of dozen additional cards. At mostly Excellent to Ex-Mt, with some falling below to Very Good or even Good, it’s an impressive array of the popular 2 5/8-by-3 3/4-inch cards that depict Fess Parker and Co. in all the exploits attributed to the legendary Crockett from Tennessee to the Alamo. We’ll address this in order of scarcity: there is a full 80-card set from the Green Series, a Green near set missing only three cards (Nos. 56, 57 and 76) and a Green partial set missing 18 cards (Nos. 11,13, 14, 16, 26, 28, 38, 39, 42, 52, 54, 55, 56, 57, 61, 67, 68 and 76); Orange Series: a near set missing two cards (Nos. 44 and 62) and a partial set missing 16 (Nos. 28, 33, 36, 43, 44, 46, 48, 52, 54, 57, 62, 66, 68, 69, 71 and 73), plus 26 extras. For non-sport collectors, it’s certainly rare to find an opportunity to come away with the better part of five sets of arguably the most popular issue of the genre for that giddy decade.
