Presented here is the iconic 1989 Upper Deck Baseball set, neatly ensconced in a factory-sealed box, ensuring that each of the 800 cards from the inaugural Upper Deck issue is as pristine as the day they rolled off the presses more than 30 years ago. As much as any baseball card set not bearing the Topps nomenclature, the 1989 Upper Deck issue helped to revolutionize a hobby into something almost unrecognizable from its earlier roots. With exotic hologram affixed to each card designed to discourage counterfeiting, the cards boasted a quality of photography, simple graphic elements and unique, glossy card stock that made it a favorite for an expanding collector base as the 1990s unfolded. Oh, and they also had the good fortune of planting an exciting untested rookie as the No. 1 card in the set, a seemingly heady gamble that ended up paying off handsomely. Ken Griffey Jr. went on to become arguably the biggest star in the game for much of the next two decades, and Upper Deck played a major role in the baseball card business for much of the same span. Of such lofty pedigree comes this historic offering, presumably in Mint condition. There’s only one way to find out for sure.
