This is an intriguing artifact from the earliest years of the transplanted Texas Rangers franchise, a home knit jersey afforded likely attribution to Ron Norman, a non-roster player invited to camp in 1973. The shirt has Wilson Size 42 labeling at the back of the collar, with “73” stitched flag tag below. It has a seven-button front (intact), with inner collar and button path cloth lining, with three-colored tapered collar and sleeve trim in red, white and blue. The uniquely fonted “Rangers” on drop shadow configuration on the front is in red-on-blue tackle twill, with Lone Star chenille-stitched to the base of the “R.” NOB is original and single-colored with red tackle twill affixed directly to the shirt, with former nameplate visible, probably for minor-league use. The No. 51 on the back in red and blue tackle twill indicates a number change, with previous number indecipherable. Norman, a fifth-round draft pick played at Double-A Pittsfield and Triple-A Spokane. The jersey reveals excessive use, with zigzag stitching on the “Rangers” on the front is bleached out, and there is some staining, most notably on the back.
