How do you improve upon finding the final Topps card from the Hall of Famers legendary career, neatly showcased in an untouched Series One Cello pack from 1973 Topps, the final year that the Brooklyn-based behemoth would issue cards in series across the course of the spring and summer every year. This is a hobby treasure of unparalleled proportions, a stunning presentation of the great Clemente’s final Topps card, issued only months following his tragic death in a plane crash on New Year’s Eve of 1972, as he carried relief aid to victims of an earthquake in Nicaragua. The BBWAA convened a special election in March of 1973 just as Topps’ First Series was reaching store shelves, waiving the five-year waiting period and promptly enshrining Clemente into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
