Presented are 10 of the unique strip cards from the 1920s when the hand-cut cards were the primary outlet for eager collectors, the 1 3/8-by-2 ¼ inch cards that featured crude artwork and spot colors that could occasionally showcase even the brightest stars of the era in unflattering terms. That said, the offered group boasts a nice, uniform presentation with uncommonly vivid and bold colors, right down to the seeming lipstick unceremoniously adorning the Ty Cobb card or the boisterous, bushy brown hairdo on The Babe. The array includes five Hall of Famers – Ruth, Cobb, Alexander, Hornsby and Frisch – and there is some light staining on the lower-left corner of the Frisch card. The baseball players led off the 50-card W512 Strip Card Series that also portrays boxers, golfers, tennis players, aviators, movie stars and other celebrities of the day.
